What is Down's syndrome?

Down’s syndrome is caused by an extra chromosome in your cells. In the majority of cases it can not be inherited, and occurs by chance at the time of conception. As well as this, many people will be wearing odd socks for the day to mark the occasion.

What is the reason for the odd socks you may ask yourself??

The beautiful picture below shows an extra chromosome which creates a condition Trisomy 21= Down’s Syndrome.

The pair of chromosomes looks like lots of socks which is the reason behind the #LOTSOFSOCKS!!

Odd socks were chosen as a symbol for WDSD because chromosomes are shaped like socks, and those with Down Syndrome have an extra one. People will also be using the hashtag #LotsOfSocks on social media to share their thoughts and support.
